Rock Sculpture / Balanced Sculpture / 1989: River Spirits

"River Spirits"

With a Canada Arts Council "Explorations" Grant, the season began in June and was still standing in December. Th grany allowed for three different intsallations in one season; one blown apart by a severe storm; the second vandalized at the end of August; the third created in the fall, giving title to the project "River Spirits", and experimented with cement for the first time. Cement became the 'clay-like'  molding between the previously balanced rocks.

"River spirits in a Canoe", was inspired by Bill Reid's "Spirit of Haida Qwaii".
