"Falcon Wings over Turtle Island"

“Falcon Wings Rising on Turtle Island” is an homage to the First Nations’ “Creation Story”. 

After a great flood, a turtle rose from the waters with earth carried on its' back, creating the earth. The turtle's shell is seen as a foundation upon which the Earth is built.
The Falcon is the guardian and messenger from the spirit world, representing keen insight, clarity and intuition.

 

Ottawa remains on the unceded Anishinabe Algonquin territory and is referred to as "Turtle Island".

The additional characters on "Turtle Island" include Fox, Bird, Owl, and Frog spirit animals.

The installation is made with granite, limestone and sandstone, and measures 25 feet/7.6 meters by 35 feet/ 10.6 meters in diameter. 
The vertical rocks measure 5 feet/ 1.5 meters in height.
